FABRIC FACTS
I have often been asked about the history of the fabric and trims that I use. The posts in my blog in the Fabulous Fabrics category is a very basic guide to the wonderful rich variety of textiles that inspire my bags and cushions.
Fabrics have many names which change over the years. For example, cretonne fabric can be a French printed barkcloth or a simple linen and hemp mix. The name comes either from the French inventor of cretonne, Paul Creton of Normandy or from a village in Normandy called Creton. You see what I mean – confusing!
Where possible I state the country of origin and date, or I make an educated guess! I’m always pleased to hear from anyone with fabric related stories or corrections to mistakes that I have inadvertently made.
